Much of my inspiration stems from my time in New York, particularly during the 1990s when I lived and studied there. The city’s energy, contrasts, and creative spirit have left a lasting impact on me and continue to influence my work. I’m especially drawn to the New York School of the 1950s, with its abstract expressionist approach, which resonates deeply with my own artistic vision. Artists like Jasper Johns—under whom my mentor once worked—and the broader legacy of that movement have shaped not only how I paint, but also why I paint.

Irit Blumenthal is an American-Israeli artist and designer with over 30 years of creative experience. Born in 1967 in Kiryat Tivon, Israel, she studied architecture at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and later expanded her design knowledge at Parsons School of Design in New York. Blumental also pursued informal art studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York, as well as at various institutions in Israel.
Her work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including a tribute to Princess Diana in New York in the mid-1990s, and her pieces have appeared in auctions in both Israel and the U.S., recognized for their bold, emotionally resonant style.
Blumenthal’s artistic range spans from abstract to expressionist abstract, shaped by her background in architecture and graphic design. Known for their dynamic use of color and powerful imagery, her paintings reflect personal experiences and a vibrant inner world. She emphasizes spontaneity in her creative process, valuing the act of painting itself over rigid concepts.
As she explains, “Painting is one of the most effective ways to alter reality, thoughts, or feelings. It doesn’t ask for permission—it gives it. It doesn’t just explore consciousness; it changes it.” Her work embodies a sense of movement, vitality, and a deep connection to her cultural and emotional roots.
